This 180 gram pressing is the only way to verify that a 1st edition Collectors find fromClassic Records mastered on a high-definition Virgin Vinyl pressing for superior fidelity. The nicest thing you can do for your stylus and your ears. The ultimate record -- the way music was meant to be heard and of superior quality for any Audiophile.
And of course cutting at 45 speed is the audiophile choice for the highes quality. A 45-RPM record is sonically superior to a 33 1/3 variety because of a 35 percent reduction of groove curvature compared to a 33 1/3 cut.. It means that while you cant fit as much music into a 45, the undukations of the groove that your cartridge has to track are stretched over a longer distance. For these reissues, the music was displaced onto four sides, meaning each side contains about 10 minutes of music.
Hands down, one of the greatest festival recordings ever. After being unavailable for nearly 20 years, this great 8-record BOXSet from 1973 is available again. The dates: September 8-10, 1972, the place: Otis Spann Memorial Field, Ann Arbor, MI, the performers recorded: Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf with Hubert Sumlin, Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Freddie King, Luther Allison, Hound Dog Taylor, Koko Taylor with Willie Dixon, Bobby Blue Bland, Dr. John, Chuck Leavell, Jr. Walker and The All Stars, Johnny Shines, Bonnie Raitt, Sippie Wallace and Sun Ra and His Solar Myth. An incredible three days of powerful music for the 15,000 plus in attendance, that hopefully someday will be revisited with the full sets by each artist including those who also performed, but are not represented in this LP, like Miles Davis, Pharaoh Sanders, and Lightnin Slim. |

Hutto & His Hawks, Roosevelt Sykes, Luther Allison,Otis Rush, Big Joe Williams, Charlie Musselwhite and more. The first everrelease of music recorded live at the landmark event, ANN ARBOR BLUES FESTIVAL1969 is available in two volumes of 2LP collectinos pressed on 180 gram vinyl.
The historic gathering was presented by a small group ofblues-obsessed University of Michigan students determined to give their bluesheroes a public spotlight where they might shine before it was too late. Amongthose enterprising student-promoters was John Fishel, whose teenage brother JimFishel, gathered some friends to help record the festival as a personalmemento. Taking advantage of their all-access pass and juggling a small Norelcotape recorder from set to set, the friends let the 1/4tape roll. Though field recordings in the literal sense of the term, theycapture the brilliance of the musicians, the excitement of the crowd and theloose, convivial nature of the entire festival. Those tapes, long thought to belost, have now been lovingly restored to capture the electric energy of thelandmark concert. Both volumes include never-before-seen photographs, artistbiographies, an exclusive reminiscence from Jim Fishel, and extensive linernotes by Parker Fishel, Sophie Abramowitz and David Beal.
"How these tapes came to the attention of the folks atThird Man and how they were restored to sounding far beyond my expectationsconsidering how they were recorded, is a story for another time but thepackaging is quite good including 32 black and white photos (snapshots wouldbe more accurate) in each gatefold plus full sized booklets and though theopening essay repeats, its followed by bios and photos of each performer pluswell-curated suggestions for further listening. Even though Sleepy John Estesand Yank Rachells performances are missing, the bios, photo and suggestedlistening are included. Yes the sound is mono and in some cases rough(including places where audience members are more on mic than are theperformerssomething familiar to all bootlegconnoisseurs), the overall sonics are pretty good and once you lock into themusic you wont care. This is the real shit. Its been in serious HeavyRotation since the LPs arrived here (I purchased, no promos). The sound ratingreflects how it sounds, but were I rating it based upon the quality of therestoration given what the tapes probably originally sounded like, the numberwould have been considerably higher. The restoration was all-analog until thefinal digitization. You wont regret buying this set. When the sound is good, its immediate and transparent." - Michael Fremer, Analog Planet, Music10/11, Sound 6/11
"The sound quality is often rough, but that shouldntdiminish the vitality of these collections. This festival represented a crucialpivot point in blues as the old guard stood alongside young bucks with electricinstruments and a bevy of white musicians building off their foundational work.Pointing out highlights feels near to impossible, but I would direct you tospend some time with Son Houses growling performance of Death Letter Blues, the sultry Key to the Highway by drummer/vocalist Sam Lay and his band andthe prickly guitar solo on the track from Jimmy Fast Fingers Dawkins set. From there, drink in the whole thing slow and easy. You wont bedisappointed." - Paste Magazine

The only way youll get closer to this classic music is to listen to the master tapes or have been in the studio with the artist originally during the actual session. You will beone of the last people in the world to ownthis 1st Edition Masterpiece. You should never pass up the opportunity to upgrade your collection. Theyre each very limited in their pressings and disappear with extraordinary quickness from the vinyl market. This causes prices to skyrocket because once they are gone, they are gone forever! Dont second-guess yourself with this chance to upgrade your collection because before you know it, the opportunity will have passed forever.
